(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Nine-piece power-funk group Turkuaz will bring its exciting stage show and ineffable dance grooves to Club Helsinki Hudson on Thursday, June 12, at 8pm.
Hailing from Brooklyn, Turkuaz boasts a three-man horn section; a handful of vocalists and percussionists; and enough of a sonic impact and versatility to remind listeners of classic funk acts such as Parliament and Sly & The Family Stone as well as 1990s funk-rockers including Fishbone and Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band’s jittery, world-pop-dance grooves also recall “Remain In Light”-era Talking Heads.
Touring behind its brand-new album, “Future 86,” Turkuaz – led by Berklee College of Music alumni Dave Brandwein (vocals and guitar) and Taylor Shell (bass) – boasts singers in sequined dresses, guys in tails (or sometimes all of them in jumpsuits or other complimentary outfits), horns, keys, guitars, amps and drums – making for a guaranteed festive dance party whenever they take the stage.
