(CHATHAM, N.Y.) – Walking the dog Theater will perform its trademark long-form improvisational shows for three evenings, Thursday-Saturday, June 26-28, 2014, at 8pm at PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century. With long-form improv, which is the focus of this season’s performance, the actors take a theme or familiar story and create a theater piece from it, or they create a piece from scratch, co-created through audience suggestions. Either way, the dialogue, action, story and characters are created collaboratively by the group as the improvisation unfolds.

Actors performing in this show include David Anderson, Lora Lee Ecobelli, Nancy Rothman, Ted DesMaisons, and Gabriel Rodriguez.

Long Form Improv veteran Lisa Rowland will direct the actors. She is co-founder of Awkward Dinner Party, which does an exciting mix of long- and short-form improv with a three-person cast. She is also a member of Improv Playhouse of San Francisco.

“Long form improv will stretch Off Leash! and our audiences into new imaginative terrain. Not just the fun sketch or funny scenario, but delving into places where we can’t get out so quickly and have to create our way through.” said Director David Anderson. “Sometimes we can say: who needs a playwright when we have a house full of imagination and this living space between us!  And sometimes we can relish: where will we go from here?”

For the last eight years, Walking the Dog has performed a variety of improv shows at PS21, some for adults, others for kids. But they all had one thing in common. They all followed the short form process, which is similar in format and style to the popular television show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”
