(THE BERKSHIRES and PIONEER VALLEY) – A group of nationally recognized potters based in the Hilltowns of Western Massachusetts will open their studios for the annual Hilltown 6 Pottery Tour, a coordinated tour of their workshops, kilns, showrooms, and new work on Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27, 2014. The tour includes talks and demonstrations, and takes place in Ashfield, Cummington, Worthington, and Westhampton.

All the potters handcraft high quality functional ceramics. Pottery tours like this one are a nationally developing format for the presentation and sale of work. The Hilltown 6  founding potters were Christy Knox, Hiroshi Nakayama, Michael McCarthy, Connie Talbot, Mark Shapiro, and Sam Taylor, hence the “6” of the group’s name. Several years ago, Robbie Heidinger and Eric Smith were asked to join the tour — the name, however, stuck. Last year, Maya Machin also joined the group.
