(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – Independent Art Projects (IAP) will celebrate the grand opening of its 2,500 square-foot exhibition space on the MASS MoCA campus (at 1315 MASS MoCA Way) with a reception and a series of talks by artists and the gallery owners who represent them. The events start Thursday, July 31, 2014, and continues throughout the weekend to Sunday, August 3.
Starting July 31, IAP presents works by Tanya Marcuse and Christopher Russell, represented by Julie Saul Gallery; Shuli Sadé, represented by Cynthia-Reeves; Steven Young Lee and Sin-Ying Ho, represented by Ferrin Contemporary; and Lauren Fensterstock, represented by Sienna Patti Contemporary.
IAP features art by mid-career and established artists in all media: painting, drawing and print, sculpture and ceramics, and photography and video. The exhibition schedule features on-going curated projects presented by founding galleries Ferrin Contemporary of Cummington and Cynthia-Reeves of New York, N.Y., and Brattleboro, Vt.
In addition, other galleries based in New York and New England are invited to present short-term exhibitions to create a dynamic changing schedule of art and public programming. The summer of 2014 includes work from artists rep-resented by Sienna Patti Contemporary of Lenox, Mass., and Julie Saul Gallery of New York, N.Y.
Directed by Martina Caruso, IAP’s exhibition space is on the ground floor of MASS MoCA’s Building 13, directly in front of the main parking lot. The newly renovated former industrial building is part of the MASS MoCA complex. While not the first arts-related business at MASS MoCA, IAP is the first of more than 30 tenants to operate a commercial gallery in MASS MoCA’s growing commercial real estate and economic development program.
