‘Down Bangs St’ by Dan Rupe

GROUP EXHIBITION of URBAN SCENES OPENS at CARRIE HADDAD GALLERY

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – “Cityscapes,” a group show of urban scenes by a dozen artists, opens at Carrie Haddad Gallery on Wednesday, January 28, and remains on view through Sunday, March 1. There will be a public reception for the artists on Saturday, January 31. Painters in the exhibition include Margaret Crenson, Darshan Russell, Arthur Hammer, Robert Goldstrom, Dan Rupe, Joseph Maresca, Bill Sullivan, Patty Neal, Edward Avedisian, and Richard Merkin. The show will also feature unique burned and scorched works on paper by Paul Chojnowski and watercolors by Scott Nelson Foster.

With five Grammy Awards, 15 nominations, millions of record sales worldwide, and thousands of sold-out performances, blues-rock icon Robert Cray is considered “one of the greatest guitarists of his generation.” Rolling Stone credits Cray with reinventing the blues with his “distinct razor sharp guitar playing” that “introduced a new generation of mainstream rock fans to the language and form of the blues” with the release of his Strong Persuader album in 1986.

INTERVENTIONS II

POP-UP EXHIBITION on HUDSON’S STATE STREET EXPLORES HOME RENOVATION

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Artist Isidro Blasco invited fourteen artists to help imagine the renovation of the house he bought at the southwest corner of State and Third streets. The result of their efforts is the on-site installation, INTERVENTIONS II, which will be on view at 257 State Street from Friday, January 30, to Sunday, February 1, from 11am to 7pm. There will be a reception on Saturday, January 31 at 1pm. Hudson artists Laetitia Hussain and Max Goldfarb are represented in the exhibition, which also includes participation by Beth Campbell, Clare Churchouse, Andrew duPont, Mala Iqbal, Laura King, Tom Kotik, Jaime Munarriz, Iván Navarro, Ruby Palmer, Karina Skvirsky, Grace Sullivan, and Dannielle Tegeder.

ELECTRONIC JAZZ QUARTET to PLAY HERBIE HANCOCK OPUS at SIMON’S ROCK

(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – “Waking the Sleeping Giant,” a 1972 work by Herbie Hancock crafted for structured improvisation for solo piano and electronics, will form the basis for “You Can Say That Again!,” an evening concert of electronic music and jazz by pianist/composer Bob Gluck, avant-garde keyboard and computer composer Neil Rolnick, and bassist Christopher Dean Sullivan, joined by faculty member John Myers on guitar, in the Kellogg Music Center at Simon’s Rock College on Saturday, January 31, at 8pm.

ANNUAL JURIED SCULPTURE SHOW OPENS at CCCA GALLERY

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – “On & Off the Wall,” the annual juried sculpture show by CCCA Gallery, opens with a reception on Saturday, January 31, from 5 to 7pm, and remains on view through March 21, 2015. The exhibit was curated by Chatham, N.Y., sculptor John Cooley. Artists whose works were selected by Cooley include C. Michael Bufi, Dot Chast, Janet Cooper, Steven Dono, Julia Fingar, Dennis Herbert, Ellen Jouret-Epstein, Scott Keidong, Jack Kelly, Steve Kubicek, Clarke Olsen, Daniel Region, RJ Rosegarten, and Marlene Vidabor.
