(COLUMBIA COUNTY, N.Y.) – While the finalization of the odious Ginsberg’s deal by the IDA (Industrial Development Association) may be the end of a controversial, hard-fought battle, strewn with conflicts of interest and cronyism, there is apparently an epilogue to the story: several advertisers with close relationships to Ginsberg’s have withdrawn their support of imby, a regional online bulletin board and news-gathering source that carried some of the most critical reporting on the Ginsberg’s project to be found in local media. This sort of action sends a chilling effect through the Fourth Estate, or what little remains of it, and only further adds to the sense that, from the national level to the local level, our democracy has morphed into an oligarchy.
