(KINGSTON, N.Y.) – Multiple Grammy Award-winning Mexican-American rock band Los Lobos combines forces with Ballet Folklorico Mexicano at UPAC on Saturday, March 12, at 8pm, for the Fiesta Mexicano Tour, celebrating the Mexican-American experience through song, dance, music, and film, highlighting the many notable achievements and contributions of Mexican-Americans throughout U.S. history in this new multimedia production.
Los Lobos will integrate live performances of both traditional Mexican folk songs and selections from their repertoire — “La Pistola y El Corazon” in particular — with the vibrant performers of the BFM. They’ll seamlessly share the stage, presenting popular traditional folk pieces from the regions of Guerrero, Veracruz, Tamaulipas and Chihuahua. Each ensemble will also individually perform their own artistic creations which have evolved from their Mexican-American experience. Both groups will demonstrate their dedication and commitment to exploring and honoring Mexican folklore.
More than three decades have passed since Los Lobos released their debut album, “Just Another Band from East L.A.” Since then this multiple Grammy Award-winning band has repeatedly disproven that title — Los Lobos isn’t “just another” anything, but rather a band that has consistently evolved artistically while never losing sight of their humble roots.
Founded in 1967, Ballet Folklorico Mexicano has achieved considerable recognition both in the United States and in Mexico. Drawing on the artistic variety of Mexico’s different regions, the company has a repertoire of over 120 dances.
