(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Award-winning composer Bobby Previte brings his new band, the Visitors, to Club Helsinki Hudson on Friday, June 17, at 9pm. Previte’s new quartet features young and upcoming stars of the Brooklyn scene, including guitarist Mike Gamble; Michael Kammers on saxophone and organ; and bassist Kurt Kotheimer. Having just recently returned from a barnstorming tour of Europe, the band will be holed up in Previte’s Columbia County studio the week before this date, finishing up their second recording.

In 1996, Bobby Previte toured with his young Weather Clear, Track Fast band, introducing a new generation of musicians to the scene, including three whose stars have shone brightly since – Jamie Saft, Cuong Vu, and Andrew D’Angelo. With the Visitors, bandleader and drummer Previte has found an equally adventurous ensemble of musicians, well-suited to playing his dynamic, original compositions and  improvising within the constraints he imposes.

The Visitors is Previte’s first touring band in ten years. Recorded and rehearsed in the country at Previte’s new studio, Three Horses in a Wood, and surrounded by the deep expanse of the forest, the Visitors play all new music, bringing together Previte’s particular take on modern and ancient music to realize his ever-expanding vision. Winner of the 2015 Greenfield Prize for music, Previte – a “serious composer with the heart of a roadhouse rocker” (Village Voice) – has been a singular voice both in his compositions and on his instrument, the drums, for over 40 years.

Previte, a seminal figure of the 1980s New York downtown scene, is well-known to Helsinki audiences for his monthly appearances with his Voodoo Orchestra North, which explores the fusion-era Miles Davis music of “Bitches Brew.” The next Voodoo Orchestra North date is Sunday, June 27, at 8pm
