(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Soul-rocker Simi Stone, classic rocker Pearl Aday, thrash-rock pioneer Scott Ian, and prog-rock singer Lisa Green will help the crowd ring out the old and ring in the new at Club Helsinki Hudson on New Year’s Eve, Saturday, December 31, at 9pm.
Well known to Helsinki Hudson audiences, Simi Stone, who calls Woodstock home, brings her dazzling stage presence and her singular “Mountain Motown” sound back to our stage to help celebrate the power of music and love. Simi plays violin, guitar, and percussion and boasts a huge, versatile voice that recalls Diana Ross and a young Michael Jackson. She writes catchy, compelling, upbeat, and introspective songs. Stone’s bands includes musicians who have played with Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Gang of Four, B-52s, and Vernon Reid.
Pearl Aday mines the soulful side of classic rock. Her debut album featured guitar work from Ted Nugent, her husband Scott Ian of Anthrax – who is also on tonight’s bill – and Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains. Pearl’s powerful, Janis Joplin-style vocals (with just a hint of Marvin Lee Aday, her father, better known as Meat Loaf, in the mix) front pure guitar-rock informed by the likes of Led Zeppelin, the Who, AC/DC, and the Rolling Stones.
Scott Ian is a founding member of pioneering thrash-metal band Anthrax, which fused the urgent rhythms of punk-rock with the aggressive force of heavy metal. Ian and Anthrax went on to pioneer rock/rap fusion by collaborating with hip-hop ensemble Public Enemy.
Lisa Green, rock singer and cofounder of the Paul Green Rock Academy, will perform the 23-minute magnum opus “Supper’s Ready” by Genesis in its entirety. This will be a faithful rendition of the prog-rock classic, featuring a band of pros and great up-and-comers, including Dan Littleton, Jason Bowman, Connor Kennedy, Will Bryant, Kendall Wind, and Paul Green.
