(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Sister Sparrow brings her old-school soul and R&B to Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, February 29, at 9pm, for the “The Souler for Solar Campaign Leap Day Party,” a concert, cocktail, and dance party in support of Ampion’s community-based renewable energy.
Catskill Mountains native Arleigh Kincheloe, aka Sister Sparrow, plays a gritty, Southern style of soul that’s been garnering raves for its live appearances at festivals including Bonnaroo, Mountain Jam, Gathering of the Vibes, moe.down, and the Voodoo Experience, as well as shared appearances with Gov’t Mule, Dr. John, Trombone Shorty, the Avett Brothers, Counting Crows, and Galactic.
The Brooklyn-based Sister Sparrow has been featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts and on the Today Show.
Glamour hit the nail on the head when they described Sister Sparrow as what you get when you cross Amy Winehouse and Tina Turner with Mick Jagger and a dose of the Squirrel Nut Zippers. It’s big-city grit and down-home sweetness together with a bit of Americana.
“Sister Sparrow … is a soul queen,” raved the Washington Post, while the Baltimore Sun notes, “Arleigh Kincheloe has one of the biggest voices in the business. Prepare to be blown away.”
Sister Sparrow’s most recent album, “Gold,” evinces a slight turn towards a more pop-oriented approach.
In addition to Sister Sparrow, the evening will include a house music set by MICK!
