(HANCOCK, Mass.) – Folk-rocker Johnny Irion and friends will perform an intimate concert at Hancock Shaker Village on Friday, August 14 at 7:30 pm, as part of the Back Porch series.

The show will include the debut of the “Inside the Endless Om” video on a large screen, followed by a short discussion with filmmaker Justin Allen and actor Ken Cheeseman (Shutter Island, Mystic River) on making art during a pandemic. Band members Don McAulay (drums) and Jacob Roach (bass) will accompany Irion.

Irion has performed and collaborated with icons Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Jeff Bridges and John Goodwin (Crazy Heart), Superchunk, The Jayhawks, Wilco, Glen Phillips, and Ramblin’ Jack Elliot.  His recently released single, “Inside the Endless Om,” is a “cosmic journey” (Rolling Stone) dedicated to the influential Indian composer Ravi Shankar. The tribute song features contributions from Jeff Bridges, Stone Temple Pilots’ Robert DeLeo, and Wilco’s Mikael Jorgensen, among others, who recorded their parts remotely in accordance with physical distancing.

The Back Porch series, which began July 25 with a sold-out Billy Keane concert, was created not only with the safety of guests in mind, but also as a way to provide live music with a unique setting amid the Village’s gorgeous gardens, historic buildings, and Berkshire hills. Concertgoers sit on an expansive lawn, with groups spaced at least six feet apart. Masks are required unless seated while eating or drinking.
