(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – Berkshire restaurateur Josh Irwin (Cantina 229, MoonCloud) will open a “fast casual” food establishment in a space adjacent to the Triplex Cinema. Plans call for a 550-square-foot space, accessible from both the interior of the Triplex and the exterior on the Triplex patio via a takeout window. Juju’s will open in May to kick off the summer season.  The Triplex patio will be open for outdoor eating in the warmer weather.

Irwin and his wife, Emily Irwin, rose to fame in the Berkshires as the owner and chef of the beloved New Marlborough hotspot Cantina 229, which recently closed after many years. Irwin is also a partner in the popular MoonCloud Restaurant, located around the corner from the Triplex on Railroad Street, and is also embarking on a number of other new, local, food-related ventures.

In a prepared statement, Triplex treasurer Sam Handel said, “We are thrilled to have Josh in the building. His experience and history of success in the community make him a perfect fit. Juju’s will bring energy and excitement to the Triplex. As I have sometimes cooked for Josh, I could not be happier.”

In a press release announcing the development, Josh Irwin said, “I could not be more excited to be bringing accessible, awesome, and tasty food to Great Barrington. As a new resident of Great Barrington (by way of New Marlborough), I am thrilled to be building a relationship with the Triplex and want to help them in every way I can. My life largely revolves around food, so Juju’s is a particularly exciting opportunity for me to begin working with the Triplex.”

According to the press release, Juju’s fast casual food concept will feature a specially created popcorn-sized fried chicken as well as popcorn-sized fried vegetable treats, two salads packed with vibrant and delicious items, and Irwin’s beloved soft serve ice cream in cones and cups. Also on the menu will be homemade mint iced tea and lemongrass lemonade. Additional beverages will be available in the adjoining Triplex lobby.
