PREVITE STIRRING UP WICKED ‘BREW’ at HELSINKI
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Renowned jazz drummer, improviser and composer Bobby Previte kicked off the Voodoo Orchestra North series this past Monday night at Club Helsinki Hudson with a scintillating exploration of Miles Davis’s eternal electric jazz-funk masterpiece, “Bitches Brew” with the aid of a magical octet of instrumentalists. The group will attempt take two this coming Monday, August 26, at 8pm.
RUBBERBANDance GROUP BLENDS HIP HOP and BALLET at PS21
(CHATHAM, N.Y.) – Canadian dance company RUBBERBANDance Group brings its fusion of hip-hop, ballet and modern dance to PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century on Friday and Saturday, August 23 and 24, at 8pm. The ensemble will perform Gravity of Center, which follows the journey of five dancers representing a family, a nomadic tribe or an entire people, as they interweave, fight, crave and hustle. The dance features original music by Canadian Jasper “DJ Lil Jaz” Gahunia, whose piano compositions are partnered with hip hop production and turntablist techniques.

BRYONY LAVERY PLAY GETS AMERICAN PREMIERE at STAGEWORKS/HUDSON
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Stockholm, an award-winning play by Tony Award-nominated playwright Bryony Lavery, gets its American premiere at Stageworks/Hudson from through Sunday, September 1. Incorporating theater and movement, Stockholm – which is getting uniformly rave reviews – is a visual, physical and poetic exploration of one day in the life of Todd and Kali, an exuberant couple who have, for all appearances, made it. They are emotionally open, sexually charged and their designer home is perfect. But peel away the flawless surface and underneath are two people held hostage to a cycle of love and destruction from which neither can escape.
LOCAL ROCKERS FAUX MEEK to PLAY HELSINKI HUDSON
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – The Faux Meek, a relatively new indie-rock group comprised of members of some of the region’s most popular bands, bring their moody style of organic drone-rock featuring vocal harmonies, electric guitar and dreamy keyboards in a return engagement to Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, August 24, at 9pm. The band is featured as part of Helsinki’s commitment to new, emerging and regional artists.
