June Drama at the Mahaiwe

”](GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center kicks off the summer theater season with three dramatic productions: The hit public radio series Symphony Space’s Selected Shorts will perform Readings on Fatherhood on Saturday, June 11 at 8 pm. The Mahaiwe will present an encore “Live in HD” broadcast of Roundabout Theatre Company’s critically acclaimed Broadway production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest on Thursday, June 9 at 7 pm, and the “Live in HD” broadcast of London’s National Theatre production of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard on Thursday, June 30 at 2 pm.

Symphony Space’s Selected Shorts presentation of Readings on Fatherhood will feature Tony-winning actors Christine Ebersole (Grey Gardens) and Campbell Scott (The Sheltering Sky, The Spanish Prisoner, Singles, Roger Dodger, The Secret Lives of Dentists, The Dying Gaul ) and host Isaiah Sheffer performing funny, moving and surprising tales about fatherhood by Etgar Keret, Maxine Swann and Mark Strand: A father tries to teach his son about saving with unexpected results; a man looks back fondly on his father, who seems to take the form of a horse; and a group of young siblings spend a memorable day adventuring with their hippie dad. Tickets are $27 to $42.

”]The Roundabout Theatre Company’s production of The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by and starring Brian Bedford, has earned three Tony Award nominations, including best revival and best actor for Bedford. This high-definition event brings the best of Broadway to movie audiences, and includes the added bonus of host David Hyde Pierce taking viewers backstage for special behind-the-scenes peek. Alfred Molina and Oscar Wilde expert Michael Hackett will discuss the writer and the man in an intermission special. Tickets are $18 to $25.

 

Howard Davies directed London’s National Theatre production of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard. His recent productions of Russian plays (including Philistines, Burnt by the Sun, and The White Guard) have earned huge critical acclaim. Zoe Wanamaker plays Madame Ranevskaya. Tickets are $18 to $25.
