(STOCKBRIDGE, Mass.) – Mary and Edith: Musings by Women a Century Apart, an omnibus evening of entertainment celebrating Berkshire literary women and featuring writer Mary Mott and actors Kate Maguire and Kim Taylor, is being staged at Berkshire Theatre Group’s Unicorn Theatre now through Sunday, October 20, 2013. Mott will share stories of her life in her one-woman show, “From Where I Sit,” and Maguire and Taylor will perform a stage adaptation of “Roman Fever,” a short story by Edith Wharton.

“From Where I Sit,” written and performed by Mary Mott and based on her columns and writings, is a memoir of the life of a young girl growing up in the 1950s and 1960s and progressing to the present day.

In 1921, Edith Wharton was the first female author to win a Pulitzer Prize for literature for her acclaimed novel, “The Age of Innocence.” “Roman Fever,” Wharton’s last short story, written in 1934 and set on a beautiful Italian terrace, explores the power of love and deception. The play is directed by Keira Naughton.

Both “Roman Fever” and “From Where I Sit” were previously produced at the new works festival, “Made in the Berkshires,” in 2011 and 2012, respectively. Due to popular response, BTG is producing the two works as a two-part evening of theatre celebrating the works of women writers in the Berkshires, presenting a dramatic look into the lives of women a century apart.

In real life, Kate Maguire is best-known as artistic director and CEO of Berkshire Theatre Group. Kim Taylor is generally known as a sometime-backup singer to her husband, a folksinger named James Taylor. Both women have significant acting credits – and talent to burn.
