(AMHERST, Mass.) – Shane Baker, the king of contemporary Yiddish vaudeville, joins forces with contemporary Yiddish theater stars Yelena Shmulenson and Allen Lewis Rickman to present Purim Shmurim, a modern-day megillah, mixing music, magic, and mummery – the tale of Esther told through favorite folk and theater tunes, classic comedy sketches, snippets of historical Purim plays, and a little legerdemain to top it all off – at the Yiddish Book Center on the campus of Hampshire College on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at 7pm.

The performance will be staged in English and in Yiddish with English translation provided.

Shane Baker, hailed by the New York Times as “one of the most prominent proponents of Yiddish theater, language and culture in New York,” will be joined on stage by renowned actors Yelena Shmulenson and Allen Lewis Rickman. Shmulenson and Rickman, also celebrated Yiddish actors, have established themselves as the go-to couple for directors like the Coen brothers when looking for a pair who can perform in Yiddish.

The Yiddish Book Center is located at 1021 West St., adjacent to Hampshire College Campus.

Tickets are $18 for members; $22 for general admission.
