ALL-STAR GLOBAL NEW MUSIC TRIO to PERFORM at HUDSON OPERA HOUSE

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Eviyan, an all-star trio of new music virtuosos and composers, will bring its unique blend of Eastern European folk, Western classical, Asian traditional, jazz and minimalist music to the Hudson Opera House on Saturday, April 5, 2014. The trio consists of new-music avatars Iva Bittová on violin and vocals; Gyan Riley on guitar; and Evan Ziporyn on clarinet.

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Singer-songwriter Heather Maloney will bring her unique blend of folk, rock, jazz and pop to Club Helsinki Hudson on Friday, April 4, at 9pm. Critics have likened Maloney’s blend of pop songcraft and meaningful, at times outspoken, lyrics to those of Aimee Mann, Erin McKeown and Ani DiFranco. Some have also invoked Ella Fitzgerald and the Beatles to encapsulate her broad, commanding range of styles and her unique voice.

(GHENT, N.Y.) – There will be a reception and artists talk celebrating the exhibition Jim Torok: Drawings – on display now through May 31, 2014 – in the Visitors Center Gallery at Omi International Arts Center on Saturday, April 5, 2014, from 2pm to 5pm. Jim Torok is known for his photorealistic, miniature portraits and his narrative storyboard, cartoon-like paintings, both based on acute observation. His portraits are generally of ordinary people he knows – artists, friends, neighbors – and depict the everyday rather than celebrity status. They are small studies of fact and plainness. His cartoon works are simultaneously hilarious and sobering, innocently optimistic and cynical, because they state so plainly what is known but most often left unsaid.
