Phish Bassist Mike Gordon to Perform Music Inspired by MASS MoCA at MASS MoCA

Mike Gordon (NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – Phish bassist/composer Mike Gordon brings his latest five-piece project, “Overstep” – featuring music inspired by a visit to MASS MoCA – to the Hunter Center at MASS MoCA on Saturday, April 5, at 8pm. Gordon will be joined onstage by his longtime band – guitarist Scott Murawski, percussionist Craig Myers, keyboardist Tom Cleary and drummer Todd Isler.

Gordon and Murawski (who has been playing with long-running New England jam band Max Creek since the 1970s) are long-time collaborators. Looking for inspiration from which to pen songs for this new album, they ventured to MASS MoCA for a day of songwriting in the museum galleries. Gordon told Rolling Stone the songwriting was a product of stimulating environments and experimental equipment, saying, “We had a toy drum set, little pocket gizmos, backpacking guitars.” The new material will be augmented by “hints of secret synesthetic mad scientist gadgetry” on and around the stage.

At 3pm, before the concert, Gordon and Murawski will host a special song dissection in Club B-10 at MASS MoCA. Gordon will take fans on an intimate journey through the creation of a song (from inception to completion) from his new album. This event will be available to a limited number of concert ticket-holders. It will be followed by a Q&A session.

A full menu to curb the munchies – from full dinners to snacks and ice cream – is available at Lickety Split before and during the show. Tickets are $22 advance, $26 day of, and $22 for students. Members receive a 10% discount. Tickets are available through the MASS MoCA box office, located on Marshall Street in North Adams, from 11am to 5pm (open every day except Tuesdays). Tickets can also be charged by phone by calling 413.662.2111 x1 during box office hours or purchased online at MASS MoCA.
