Berkshire-Based Global Dubstep Duo Barely Alive to Headline Rock the Block 2.0 Street Festival in Downtown North Adams

Barely Alive(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – On the heels of the release of their internationally acclaimed EP “Lost in the Internet,” Berkshire-based dubstep duo Barely Alive will headline Rock the Block 2.0, taking place on Main Street in downtown North Adams on Sunday, May 4, 2014, from 2 to 8pm, with Barely Alive expected to take the stage at 6pm. The block party will also include performances by Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) student clubs such as the Allegrettos, Nexus, Dance Company and local bands including Rebel Alliance and T-Bone Daddy. There will be flash mobs, carnival activities, zumba, poetry lessons, musical chairs, local restaurants, community organizations, and much more.

With the release of “Lost in the Internet,” Barely Alive has achieved the prominence on the global electronic dance music (EDM) scene that many predicted for them when they first began producing their original music a little over a year ago. With the most famous dubstep artist, Skrillex, adorning the cover of Rolling Stone magazine this month, and with EDM pioneers Daft Punk recently shocking the music industry by stealing the Grammy Award for Best Album, the time has never been more ripe for emerging artists Barely Alive.

After graduating from Monument Mountain Regional High School in Great Barrington, Mass. -where the two were heavily involved in the school’s terrific music program helmed by Jeffrey Stevens – Willie Watkins (who was born a few blocks from Main Street, North Adams, at the erstwhile North Adams Regional Hospital) and Matt Meier began producing their own EDM tracks. About a year ago, they began releasing tracks as the dance music producer/DJ duo Barely Alive, and quickly garnered an international fan base and recognition for their unique style. Their tracks have been dropped by the biggest artists in the bass music scene such as Adventure Club, Datsik, and Excision, and superstars including Gold Top and Virtual Riot have released remixes of their music. The duo is managed by Ross Burr, of London, and is scheduled to perform on an international tour this summer.

Rock the Block 2.0 is presented and produced by MCLA’s Advanced Performing Arts Management Class.
