(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – A monumentally suggestive bubble-gum pink outdoor sculptural ensemble by Franz West called Les Pommes d’Adam goes on display at MASS MoCA adjacent to the Hall Art Foundation’s 10,000 square-foot building dedicated to the work of Anselm Kiefer on Saturday, May 3. The phallic installation marks the work’s first presentation in the United States and its second-ever erection.
BERKSHIRE-BASED GLOBAL DUBSTEP DUO to HEADLINE DOWNTOWN NORTH ADAMS STREET FESTIVAL
(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – On the heels of the release of their internationally acclaimed EP “Lost in the Internet,” Berkshire-based dubstep duo Barely Alive will headline Rock the Block 2.0, taking place on Main Street in downtown North Adams on Sunday, May 4, from 2 to 8pm, with Barely Alive expected to take the stage at 6pm. The block party will also include performances by MCLA student clubs such as the Allegrettos, Nexus, Dance Company and local bands including Rebel Alliance and T-Bone Daddy. There will be flash mobs, carnival activities, zumba, poetry lessons, musical chairs, local restaurants, community organizations, and much more.
POTTERY by PAULA SHALAN GOES ON DISPLAY at KNOX GALLERY
(MONTEREY, Mass.) – Paula Shalan Ceramics: Shades of Black, an exhibition of works by Berkshire potter Paula Shalan opens at the Knox Gallery in the Monterey Library on Friday, May 2, with a reception from 6 to 7:30 pm that evening. The artist will speak about her work at the gallery on Saturday, May 31, at 10am, just before the exhibit closes.
‘BIG HEAD’ TODD PARK MOHR to PLAY HELSINKI HUDSON
(HUDSON, N.Y.) –Todd Park Mohr, the eponymous leader of rock group Big Head Todd & the Monsters, will perform a solo show at Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, May 3, at 8pm. Founded as a trio in Boulder, Colorado, in 1986, by three students from Columbine High School, Big Head Todd & the Monsters quickly built a strong reputation on the local club circuit. The band grew beyond the Colorado club circuit through constant touring, gathering a loyal, dedicated following for the group’s funky blues-rock and gaining popularity on the jam-band circuit.
CHOIRS to PERFORM MUSIC of BIBER, GABRIELI and GESUALDO
(LENOX, Mass.) — The Cantilena Chamber Choir, in concert with Cambridge Concentus, will present the rarely heard Missa Christi Resurgentis by Heinrich Biber. The performance will be held at Trinity Church on Sunday, May 4, at 3pm. Also on the program is the Glory of Venice, music for multiple choirs and instrumental groups by Giovanni Gabrieli, and music by Gesualdo.
