Baba Buffalo Brings All-Star Jazz Trio to Helsinki Hudson

BuffaloTrio_HelsinkiBerkshireDaily_Sm_v1(HUDSON, N.Y.) – The Buffalo Trio will bring its improvisational jazz chops to Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, May 31, at 9pm. The group is led by Hudson’s own Tony Kieraldo, aka Baba Buffalo, on piano, and includes electric bassist Noah Jarrett – son of legendary pianist Keith Jarrett – and Nick Halley – son of Paul Winter Consort keyboardist Paul Halley.

Tony Kieraldo is a freelance pianist, teacher, accompanist, composer and musical director working in the Hudson Valley, New York City, Colorado and beyond. Kieraldo has recorded, performed, and toured internationally with various musical groups and performed genres of all kinds since 1998, including jazz, classical, rock, hip-hop, Sufi, folk and avant-garde. Kieraldo has shared stages and worked with Jacques d’Amboise, Bill Irwin, Meshell Ndegeocello, Marco Benevento, Lil Buck, Tommy Stinson and Bobby Previte. In May 2014, he was invited to perform at the White House for a program called Turnaround Arts, a government initiative to transform failing public schools through the arts.

Noah Jarrett was born and raised in New Jersey as well as New York City. He began study of the electric bass at the age of nine, after five years studying the violin. Jarrett plays in a great variety of groups in the New York and Boston areas, including Fat Little Bastard, a dark, groovy guitar trio, and the Inbetweens, an electric guitar trio based in New York City. Jarrett accompanies the virtuosic Malian kora player, Mamadou Diabate, in many group settings at festivals and events all over the country.

As a drummer and world percussionist, Nick Halley performs and records internationally with a wide range of musicians, including James Taylor, Oscar Castro-Neves, Maucha Adnet, David McGuinness, Revenge of the Folk Singers, Concerto Caledonia, Jefferson Hamer, the Chris Norman Ensemble, various Paul Halley ensembles, Suzie LeBlanc, Theresa Thomason, Diomira with Dinuk Wijeratne and Joseph Petric, and the Nick Halley Band. The recording Barnum Hill (2008) features Halley and his ensemble performing original compositions.

This program represents Helsinki Hudson’s commitment to programming jazz and featuring regional and rising artists.
