(PITTSFIELD, Mass.) – An exhibition of sculpture by Berkshire native Luke Egan will open at Shire City Sanctuary with a Meet the Artist event on Friday, June 5, 2015, from 5 to 7pm. Egan currently lives in Northampton and works in his studio in Easthampton. His work is focused primarily on the notion of legacy, both in terms of what is inherited and what is left behind.

After earning an AA in visual arts from Berkshire Community College, Egan went on to complete his BFA with a concentration in sculpture from UMass Amherst. Egan has shown his work locally and regionally, including BCC’s Intermodal Gallery, the Herter, Lee Edwards, and Augusta Savage Galleries at UMass Amherst, the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts in Pittsfield, and most recently at The Former Gallery in West Stockbridge.

Shire City Sanctuary is located in the heart of Pittsfield, the biggest city in Berkshire County, MA.  It is the first Makerspace in the Berkshires offering screen-printing and commercial sewing equipment, studio, event, meeting, teaching, and presentation space.

Workspace, collaboration, tutorials and classes are available to members. Shire City Sanctuary also houses a production kitchen available for food-based businesses.  Shire City Sanctuary is a key player in the Berkshires’ creative economy, an area long renowned for both its natural beauty and sustainable creativity.
