JON CLEARY and BAND to RING IN THE NEW YEAR NEW ORLEANS-STYLE at HELSINKI HUDSON
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen return to Club Helsinki Hudson to help ring out the old and ring in the new New Orleans-style on New Year’s Eve, Thursday, December 31, at 9pm. The Grammy Award-nominated Cleary has been a mainstay on the New Orleans R&B scene for over 35 years. As a singer, pianist and songwriter, he holds his own next to Dr. John and the late Allen Toussaint, with whom Cleary often collaborated. As is always the case when the music in the club veers toward the Big Easy, bayou-born-and-bred Helsinki executive chef Hugh Horner will prepare a menu of authentic Louisiana specialties.
NEW PHOTOGRAPHY GOES ON EXHIBIT at CARRIE HADDAD GALLERY
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – An innovative group show of Photography, featuring new work by Kahn & Selesnick, Birgit Blyth, Gail Peachin, Stephanie Blumenthal, David Halliday and Joseph Maresca, will be exhibited alongside prints by Robert Hite, Eric Lindbloom, Jeri Eisenberg, Newbold Bohemia, and Lisa Frank at Carrie Haddad Gallery from Wednesday, December 30, 2015, through Sunday, February 3, 2016. There will be an opening reception for the artists on Sunday, January 3, from 2 to 4pm, free and open to the public.
BERKSHIRE BACH PRESENTS a BAROQUE NEW YEAR’S EVE at THE MAHAIWE
(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – Berkshire Bach Society celebrates its 25th season with its annual “Bach at New Year’s” program, featuring the Berkshire Bach Ensemble and director-harpsichordist Kenneth Cooper at the Mahaiwe on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at 6pm. Soloists are Eugene Drucker, Benjamin Luxon, Allan Dean, Neil Mueller, Gerald Serfass, Joel Pitchon, Meg Owens, Ronald Gorevic and Judith Mendenhall, in a program including Vivaldi’s Concerto in C for two trumpets; Corelli’s Concerto Opus 6 # 8 Composed for Christmas Eve; and JS Bach’s Violin Concerto #1 in A minor and Brandenburg Concerti Nos. 2 and 3.
ONE STRAW REVOLUTION POWERS SWING NIGHT at RACE BROOK LODGE
(SHEFFIELD, Mass.) – Regional swing outfit One Straw Revolution will help Race Brook Lodge revive its Swing Night with a reunion concert in the Barn Space at Race Brook on Saturday, January 2, at 8pm. One Straw Revolution is well known by the southern Berkshire community, which frequently swung to the group’s rhythms in the late 1990s at the the Old Egremont Club. In this father-son band, Jonathan Suters plays guitar, his father Roger Suters, plays bass, Bobby MacVeety on guitar and vocals, Conor Meehan plays drums, and Peter McEachern on trombone.
