(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Dave and Phil Alvin, who cofounded seminal early LA punk-roots band The Blasters in 1979, bring their brotherly reunion tour to Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, September 3, at 9pm. Dave and Phil Alvin and the Guilty Ones continue to make up for lost time, which also happens to be the name of their most recent album, “Lost Time.” Helsinki Hudson’s favorite goddess of twang-rock, Sarah Borges, will warm up the crowd for this celebration of the power of brotherly love.
The Alvin Brothers hung in together in the Blasters for seven years, after which Dave left to become lead guitarist of cowpunk legends X. It would be nearly three decades before the brothers would record another album together, and their reunion album, 2014’s “Common Ground,” garnered them a Grammy Award nomination. The two followed that up with last year’s “Lost Time,” for which the two have been making up since then, both onstage and in the recording studio.
“Common Ground” was a tribute to country blues legend Big Bill Broonzy. “Lost Time” finds the Alvins celebrating the roots music that influenced them growing up in Southern California, including Lead Belly, Oscar Brown, Jr., Blind Boy Fuller and Big Joe Turner, among others.
Spending four weeks at #1 on the Americana Music radio chart, “Lost Time” garnered rave reviews worldwide, with American Songwriter saying “making up for lost time never sounded so good.” MOJO, Classic Rock Blues and the Los Angeles Times included “Lost Time” on their 2015 Album of the Year lists.
Sarah Borges has been entertaining Helsinki audiences for years with her diverse brand of punk-inflected noir-rock. She cuts an alluring figure onstage, and was seemingly born to play rock ‘n’ roll. She’s the perfect act to warm up a crowd for the Alvin brothers.
