(NORTH HILLSDALE, N.Y.) – Innovative banjoist Tony Trischka, the Foghorn Stringband, Danny Paisley & Southern Grass, Bruce Molsky with Molsky’s Mountain Drifters, featuring banjoist Allison de Groot and guitarist Stash Wyslouch, and “Six Feet Under”’s Lauren Ambrose headline the second annual Oldtone Roots Music Festival, at Cool Whisper Farm from Thursday, September 8, through Sunday, September 11.
Other performers include fast-rising New Orleans brass and banjo band Tuba Skinny, Two Man Gentleman Band, Brad Lee Folk & Bluegrass Playboys, Jesse Lege & Bayou Brew, Mike Compton, Michael Daves, Raya Brass Band, Run Mountain, Lucky Five, Mail the Horse, The Hayrollers, the Russet Trio, Mountain Laurel, the Farwells, Bear Minimum, Bash Bish Bluegrass Band, and Easy Ridin Papas.
The festival includes old-time, bluegrass, Cajun, and New Orleans big band jazz, on the mainstage, dance stage, and workshop stages. A dance tent will feature contra, square, and swing dancing. Many of the top artists will offer workshops, and the festival offers kid’s activities and instrument and band contests judged by the staff and artists. The “picker’s”-friendly full-camping festival will also offer local farm food, beer, and craft vendors on a beautiful farm in the rolling hills of North Hillsdale, N.Y.
The festival will feature the only public performance in 2016 from New York vaudevillian favorites, The Two Man Gentlemen Band, hard-driving bluegrass from Danny Paisley and the Southern Grass, Cajun accordion superhero Jesse Lege, an old time string band super group led by Bruce Molsky, Molsky’s Mountain Drifters, featuring banjoist Allison de Groot and guitarist Stash Wyslouch; the fast-rising New Orleans brass and banjo band Tuba Skinny, and the globetrotting ambassadors of American music, The Foghorn Stringband. There will be 20-plus acts in all.
The event is an earth-friendly, family-focused camping adventure on the stunning 150-acre Cool Whisper Farm, owned by Matt and Lisa Schober. Festival attendees will be able to see (from a distance) highland cattle amidst mountain views and rolling fields. In addition to camping, day tickets are also available.
Oldtone’s Classic Country Friday Night Revue will feature Caleb Klauder, Reeb Wilms, Lauren Ambrose, Andy Bean, Brad Lee Folk, Pete Adams, Brian Kantor and others.
