(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Cabaret-rock singer-songwriter Nellie McKay brings her uniquely eccentric blend of pop, rock, jazz and hip-hop to Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at 9pm. The multi-talented Nellie McKay made her smash debut nearly a decade ago with her groundbreaking double-CD, “Get Away from Me,” showcasing her eclectic musical reach and her dazzling lyrical wit (which extended to the album’s title, a subtle play on the breakthrough album by a somewhat similarly inclined pop-folk jazz singer named Norah Jones).

A reception and gallery talk by the artist will take place on Saturday, November 30, at 5pm. Joel Griffith was named the official Painter Laureate of his hometown of Tivoli, N.Y., in 2003. His paintings, many of which grace the walls of Tivoli’s Town Hall, have been likened to “a great story told at the local bar by a profound poet with a visionary eye.”

HOLIDAY-THEMED TENNESSEE WILLIAMS EVENT to ‘POP UP’ in CHATHAM
(CHATHAM, N.Y.) – “Tennessee Williams: Straight Up and Salted with a Twist,” a Blue Horse Repertory production presented by PS21, will be given a “pop up” performance on Saturday, November 30, 2013, in the storefront at 12 Main Street, Chatham. The two-part program includes a performance of Tennessee Williams’ “The Lady of Larkspur Lotion” at 3:30 pm, followed by a reading of Christopher Durang’s Tennessee Williams parody, “For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls,” at 5pm.

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Montreal-based indie-rock collective The Franklin Electric brings its organic brand of folk-rock to Club Helsinki Hudson on Friday, November 29, at 9pm. The group – a kind of Canadian answer to Wilco that should appeal to fans of Bon Iver, Beirut, and their fellow countrymen and folk-rock icons, The Band – is led by songwriter, pianist, and trumpeter Jon Matte, whose clear, expressive vocals recall Jeff Buckley in their melancholy and range.
