MCLA Gallery 51 to Feature Haitian Art

(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) — Persistence of Spirit, an exhibition of paintings by three prominent Haitian artists, Philippe Dodard, Gontron Durocher and Ronald Mevs, will be on display at MCLA Gallery 51 from Thursday, January 30, 2014, through Sunday, February 23. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, January 30, from 5 to 7p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – New York sextet the Brain Cloud brings its brand of gypsy jazz dipped in Western swing to the Hunter Center for a dance party at MASS MoCA on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 8pm. A New York City staple, the Brain Cloud has been called “one of the city’s most dependably charming retro acts.” The group, composed of Dennis Lichtman on electric mandolin, fiddle and clarinet, vocalist Tamar Korn, Raphael McGregor on lap steel guitar, guitarist Skip Krevens, Andrew Hall on upright bass, and drummer Kevin Dorn, plays where jazz meets country at the high-stepping intersection of New Orleans and Nashville. Dance instruction will be provided by Jacob’s Pillow Dance.

(PITTSFIELD, Mass.) ? Collections of rare motorcycles, wind-up toys, exotic insects, vintage guitars, antique toasters, and Pez dispensers among other artifacts are on display at Berkshire Museum as part of the exhibition Berkshire Collects, which runs through May 11, 2014. The exhibit is intended to showcase Berkshire County residents’ passionate pursuit of every imaginable kind of object and memorabilia. More than 40 collections are included in the exhibit, which salutes the long and diverse tradition of collecting that built the Berkshire Museum itself 110 years ago.
