(GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.) – Composer Ludwig Van Beethoven’s pathway from disciple of classical composer Haydn to hero of the Romantic movement will be traced in “Beethoven and the Dawn of Romanticism,” a chamber concert at the Mahaiwe on Saturday, May 17, at 6pm, as part of the Close Encounters With Music series. Works to be performed include the famed the Kreutzer Sonata and the Archduke Trio.
EXHIBITION of HUSBAND-AND-WIFE ARTISTS at SPENCERTOWN ACADEMY
(SPENCERTOWN, N.Y.) – Works by New Hampshire-based artists J. Ann Eldridge and Bill Duffy will be on display at Spencertown Academy Arts Center from May 17 through June 22, 2014. There will be an opening reception for “Off the Beaten Path: Prints by J. Ann Eldridge and Photographs by Bill Duffy” on Saturday, May 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
ROOTS-MUSIC FIDDLER BRITTANY HAAS in HUDSON HOUSE CONCERT
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Brittany Haas, one of the most influential roots-music fiddlers of her generation, will perform with her trio at a house concert at Peter Jung Fine Art on Friday, May 16, at 7pm. Haas, a protégé of Darol Anger and Bruce Molsky and a member of chambergrass group Crooked Still, will be joined by Joe Walsh on mandolin and Owen Marshall on guitar.
SOULIVE COFOUNDER to BRING SOUL-ROCK TRIO to HELSINKI HUDSON
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Alan Evans, the cofounder, writer and drummer of Soulive, will bring Playonbrother, his new “electrified soul-rock trio” to Club Helsinki Hudson on Friday, May 16, at 9pm. The group – formerly called the Alan Evans Trio – features Beau Sasser on Hammond B-3 organ and Danny Mayer on guitar. With Evans’s hard-driving drumming, the overall sound of Playonbrother updates classic 1970s funk for the 21st century.
