MASS MoCA CELEBRATES 15 YEARS with DANCE PARTY, POP-UP PERFORMANCES – and ART
(NORTH ADAMS, Mass.) – MASS MoCA will mark its 15th anniversary on Saturday, May 24, 2014, beginning at 4pm with a series of events culminating with a dance party featuring the Bhangra funk of Red Baraat and tunes by DJ Rekha. The hours leading up to the dance concert, which takes place at 8:30pm, will feature pop-ups from past performers including Mark Mulcahy, Cynthia Hopkins, and Bang on a Can’s Mark Stewart and an opening reception for As Above So Below, a series of dynamic and immersive new works by Brooklyn-based artist Teresita Fernández. Museum galleries will be open until 8pm.
DOVER QUARTET and ALON GOLDSTEIN KICK OFF TANNERY POND SERIES with HAYDN, BARBER, DVORAK

SCULPTURE, PHOTOGRAPHY and AMERICANA MUSIC at CHESTERWOOD
(STOCKBRIDGE, Mass.) – The 2014 season at Chesterwood – the former summer home, studio and gardens of America’s foremost public sculptor Daniel Chester French – includes an exhibition of photography by Julie McCarthy, Chesterwood’s 2013/2014 artist-in-residence; contemporary sculpture by Albert Paley; and a series of outdoor Americana music concerts called Chesterfest. Chesterwood will open for the season on Saturday, May 24, 2014, from 10 am to 5 pm, featuring the reopening of Daniel Chester French’s studio that showcases his plaster models for monumental sculptures.

(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Boston-based twang-rocker Sarah Borges and honky-tonk outfit Girls Guns and Glory share a roots-rocking co-bill at Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, May 24, at 9pm. Both artists mine early rock ‘n’ roll styles as well as their roots and tributaries, including country, blues and R&B, on their way toward making new indie-rock with the immediacy and passion of 1950s and early-’60s music.

RASPUTINA to BRING MODERN VICTORIAN FOLK-ROCK to HELSINKI HUDSON
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Singer-songwriter and cellist Melora Creager brings her Modern Victorian folk-rock group, Rasputina, to Club Helsinki Hudson on Thursday, May 22, at 8pm. Since 1991, Melora Creager – who calls Hudson home — has been exploring the affinities among modern rock, cello, and Victorian folk in original songs that connect the dots between Renaissance madrigals and Nirvana-like grunge-rock.
