ELVIS PERKINS BRINGS HIS PSYCHEDELIC FOLK HOME to HELSINKI HUDSON
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Hudson’s own psychedelic-folk singer-songwriter Elvis Perkins helps Club Helsinki Hudson celebrate its 20th anniversary with a performance on Thursday, December 10, at 8pm, just two days after completing a two-month European tour. Kinsey, featuring Perkins’s bandmate and collaborator Nick Kinsey, will warm up the crowd for Perkins, who will be bringing a new batch of songs from his recent, critically acclaimed album, “I Aubade.”
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Qu’est qui ce passe (What’s going on?), a video art installation featuring work by a half dozen international artists, takes place at TSL (Time and Space Limited) on Thursday, December 10, from 6 to 10pm. Curated by Shanekia McIntosh and Bianca Hildenbrand, the installation features videography by Zia Anger (USA), Maria Gysi (CH), Nathan Corbin (USA), Luc Gut (CH), Lena-Maria Thüring (CH) and Miles Pflanz (USA).
ABANDONED CATSKILLS RESORTS FEATURED in PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW at VALLEY VARIETY
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – “Echoes of the Borscht Belt,” a poignant series of photographs by Marisa Scheinfeld, featuring haunting contemporary images of the former thriving resort hotels in the Catskill Mountains region now abandoned, ghostly, and caught in a state of entropy and decay, goes on view at Valley Variety this weekend and will remain on view through the end of the year. There will be a ticketed artist talk and reception with the photographer on Saturday, December 12, from 5:30 to 8:30pm.
NESTER, OSSIP and KHAR to READ at SPOTTY DOG
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Authors Daniel Nester, Kathleen Ossip, and Erin Khar will read from their works at Spotty Dog Books and Ale on Saturday, December 12, at 7pm, as part of the new Volume free reading and music series hosted by Hallie Goodman and Dani Grammerstorf French on the second Saturday of each month. DJ Shannekia Macintosh will spin tunes following the readings.
WINTER SONGFEST by DAWN UPSHAW and FRIENDS at BARD COLLEGE
(ANNANDALE-on-HUDSON, N.Y.) – Acclaimed soprano and Grammy Award-winner Dawn Upshaw will be joined by actress Mary Stuart Masterson, singers of the Bard Conservatory Graduate Vocal Arts Program, pianists of the Conservatory Post Graduate Piano Fellowship Program, and The Chancellor-Livingston 5th Grade Chorus for “A Winter Songfest,” in a family-friendly program of festive songs and ensembles in the Sosnoff Theater of the Fisher Center at Bard College on Sunday, December 13, at 3pm.
HOLIDELIC BRINGS HOLIDAY FUNK-TACULAR to HELSINKI HUDSON
(HUDSON, N.Y.) – Once again the holiday-funk spectacular Holidelic – the brainchild of Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, producer, actor and dancer Everett Bradley – will usher in the holiday season at Club Helsinki Hudson, this year with a two-night stand celebrating the club’s 20th anniversary season, on Friday and Saturday, December 11 and 12, at 9pm. Part dance party, part funk concert, part comedy show, the Yuletide-themed event features original holiday songs as well as loose, funk-infused adaptations of Tchaikovsky, “Frosty the Snowman,” “Little Drummer Boy” and the like.
